We have a TomTom and love it!

I was using maps for years, so it took some getting used to. It’s user friendly, and has tons of settings to choose from.

We have lots of free personalities that we downloaded free for the unit. Most of them are absolutely entertaining.

It’s upgradable. We’d had no problems with it, and it’s saved us $ $ because we no longer need to waste ink with printing out google maps, or waste gas due to driving around lost.

I’d buy another in a heart beat.

GPS units are receivers and they don’t transmit any singles of their own, it reads microwaves emitted from satilites.
NAVSTAR… It is a one-way (listen only) system, in which the satellites transmit signals, but are unaware who is using the signal (no receiving function). The user (or listener) does not transmit a signal, and therefore:

* cannot be detected by the enemy (military context), and
* cannot be charged for using the system (civilian context).
