How do GPS navigations systems inside cars know that a road is “ONE WAY” only?

Question by tunafabulous: How do GPS navigations systems inside cars know that a road is “ONE WAY” only?

Best answer:

Answer by Sayed Ali S
I think GPS navigators are produced with certain obligatory illustrations, thus certain roads are identified, and since satelite is a backup source of GPS and the roads system are usually recognized by satelite, then it may be inferred that the same is the case for GPS navigation systems. In a broad sense, satelite recognizes the One Way roads.

How do GPS navigation systems work?

Question by MONSTER: How do GPS navigation systems work?
I am going off to college next fall and I was looking into buying a Garmin Nuvi 1300, any other suggestions? I am also very inquisitive on how GPS’s actually work, do I need any additions in my car… etc.?

There are 24 satellites that make up the GPS space segment and are orbiting the earth about 12,000 miles above us. They are constantly moving, making two complete orbits in less than 24 hours. These satellites are travelling at speeds of 7,000 miles an hour.

GPS satellites are powered by solar energy. They have backup batteries onboard to keep them running in the event of a solar eclipse, when there’s no solar power. Small rocket boosters on each satellite keep them flying in the correct path.

most GPS work by using 12 satellites in the sky at a time.
the GPS unit will pickup signal from 12 sats (or as many as it can find) and average communications time to pinpoint where you are in relation to them. the more sats it sees(clear days vs coudyness or tree’s covering) the more accurate it is.

3 signals are sent by each sat.
1-id code
2-satellite health/dat/time
3-info where to find other sats.
this info is compiled by GPS aobut all sats located and used to determine your location.

Questions(s) about GPS navigation systems – - best kind available and battery life?

Question by David H: Questions(s) about GPS navigation systems – - best kind available and battery life?
I have wanted to get a GPS system for my car and I’m finally going to do it,(but) I have some ?’s about them. I understand that you plug them into your cigarette lighter to make them work but I’ve read articles on some of them < TomTom & Magellan > and it states that the battery wears out in 3 hours.

If it is powered by the cigarette lighter then what is the purpose of the battery? If I go on a trip in the car for 5 hours does this mean that it will NOT work after the 3 hours? Also, which one is the best and has the clearest instructions? I have referenced TomTom and Magellan and each one has different models to choose from. I’m not sure which one to get. All replies will be appreciated.

What cell phones from Cingular (att) come with GPS navigation.?

Question by bigglozano: What cell phones from Cingular (att) come with GPS navigation.?
I am trying to get a new phone but need navigation on it. Does anybody know of a phone that comes with GPS navigation. I know I will have to get the service, and I know the blackberry 8800 does. Any others? If so, does it work good? Just as good as a navigation system in your car? I do alot of driving so this is why I am asking.

The 8800 is the only one with the GPS receiver built in. You can purchase a device called a “puck” that will work with almost all of the PDA’s through telenav. The 8800 is an awesome phone though, and telenav has never failed me. Just make sure that you get the unlimited telenav, the package that comes with only 10 maps goes by fast.
